About my paintings . . .
Rather than duplicate an image, I work to infer with gesture, value and color – laying marks down on the canvas as the moment touches me. Painting is my response to light and subtle nuances of shadow, form, and reflection on the subject matter. I’ve learned much from painting in nature. It teaches you to work fast to capture the light and form. Most of my paintings are done in oil. Recently, I’ve begun working with water-soluble oils and a limited palette. You’ll notice some paintings appear to have heavier brush strokes, while others appear to have more transparent layers. Both are oils and both techniques I enjoy. As with most of my work, my style for each piece follows the inspiration and how it guides me!
Let me know if you have certain questions or comments about individual pieces. I’d love to hear from you.
